Glycolic Peel Information
Why Is Exfoliation Important?
The skin is constantly generating new skin cells at the lower layer (the dermis) and sending them to the surface (the epidermis). As the cells rise to the surface they gradually die and become filled with keratin. These keratinized skin cells are essential because they give our skin its protective quality. They are constantly sloughing off to make way for younger cells.
As we age the process of cell turnover slows down. Cells start to pile up unevenly on the skin's surface, giving it a dry, rough, dull appearance. Exfoliation is beneficial because it removes those cells that are clinging on, revealing the fresher, younger skin cells below.

What is a Glycolic Acid Peel?
Glycolic acid peels are non-invasive, non-surgical facial treatments that can refine the texture of your skin and improve your appearance by revealing younger-looking skin and a clear, radiant complexion.  Formulated from sugar cane, this acid creates a mild exfoliating action. Glycolic acid peels work by loosening up the horny layer and exfoliating the superficial top layer.  Latic acid (made from milk) is used for more sensitive skin types.

How Do Glycolic Acid Peels Work?
Chemical peels remove a micro-thin top layer of skin, ridding skin of damaged cells and treating wrinkles and fine lines, age spots and skin discoloration, and surface sun damage.  The chemical peels are applied through a series of sessions, beginning with a 20-30% glycolic solution.  For best results, a series of six treatments every two weeks is recommended in order to stimulate quicker cell turnover.

Do Glycolic Acid Peels Hurt?
Peels can best be described as uncomfortable.  Some will feel stinging or burning, while others only feel an itching or tingling sensation.  The sensation is stronger at the beginning and quickly dies down after 30 to 60 seconds.  Redness is sometimes present for a few minutes to a few hours after treatment.  Your skin will most likely not peel after the treatment.

How Long is the Treatment?
Glycolic acid peels are considered "lunchtime" treatments because a typical session lasts between 35 and 45 minutes, and you can go back to work immediately after the procedure.

Results of Glycolic Acid Peels
·Skin receives a healthy glow relatively quickly. Products will penetrate quicker and deeper into the skin.  Cell division is stimulated, resulting in new, healthy, plump cells.  Fine lines are diminished and the skin is smoother, softer.
Acne and blemishes are decreased. Pores are unclogged.  Skin discolorations and surface sun damage are reduced after several treatments.
